Understanding Fundamentals Of Backups
What is an Online Backup?
An online backup is when your data is copied to an "off-site" or cloud backup service. This service backups automatically and uploads the data bases related to the Guardian System to a cloud server via the internet. Data bases include GRX _master, Medicaid, CPH, and the Reports folder. Backups are done during off hours and is scheduled after working hours. This is so that all transactions up to the end of day are backed up.
How Do Online Backups Work?
Online backups use a high-speed network connection to send your data to the cloud. When an online backup is underway, your hard drives are scanned for important files, and those files are encrypted before being sent to the backup company's online servers. This is done automatically and can be scheduled to happen periodically. Cloud backup service providers use many techniques to reduce capacity, including "deduplication" to save space on their servers. There are three types of backups that a provider may use to successfully backup data they are: Full backups, which include entire data set, regardless of any previous backup. Differential backups this type are additions and alterations since the most recent full backup. Incremental backups are additions and alterations since the most recent incremental backup was made.

How Do Cloud Backup Services Restore Data?
The restoration process begins by identifying the specific files or folders that need to be restored and then copying them over from the backup location. The transfer process begins over the internet, restoring from the backup will copy your data back to your computer. Once the download is complete, users should verity that the data has been successfully restored. How do I know that files are being backed up?
Once a backup has been completed the system will automatically email a transaction report confirming the files that were successfully backed up. After every backup a report is emailed to the client. The report contains the date, name of company, the file size and other important information pertaining to the backup process. In the case of multiple data bases, the report will lay out each data base with the required size that was necessary to backup the files. If more space is needed as the data base grows in size the system will automatically allocate more space. In the example of an online backup report the cph and the grx_master were successfully backed up. Durning this same backup process additional files from other programs such as word processing and spread sheets can be added. We also have the ability to provide an image of the entire hard drive.
